Crafty When I Need to Be

This is a time when I really feel I deserve some type of medal or A+ for my efforts as a mom. Azael came home last week and said, "I need a cow costume by next Monday. The cow has to be white." Great. I researched the options and realized I would have to pull something together. I purchased white sweat pants, a white hat, and lots of felt and constructed a tail and a cool cow hat (pictured here). I was proud of myself. The whole thing took me about 4 hours, including the shopping and research, which is no small chunk of time in my busy, busy day. Mystery Man saw the hat and almost shouted in surprise and excitement, "You MADE this? Wow!" That was the ultimate compliment.

The same day Azael brought home a "cow costume" from school, which some teacher had pulled together. It was essentially a converted easter bunny costume. The hat looked like a dalmation puppy/bunny combination because they had painted black spots on it. Really bad. Guess which costume Azael chose? Not mine. He said, "Mom, it would be like I'm wearing a hat of the character instead of actually being IN character." The difference? The spotted dalmation/easter bunny thing buttoned under his chin, which I guess is much more "in character" (assuming he was trying to look like a puppy instead of a cow).  I definitely felt resentful and I'm still trying to figure out what lesson I should take from this: never to help my children? Not sure, but I still think the hat is cool and now I have something awesome to wear for Halloween next year.

Lorelai's Horse-filled Birthday

Lorelai just turned 6 and had a fun weekend of celebrations. Her birthday party with friends was at a local stables. The girls got to comb some horses and also go for a ride.

 Lorelai takes a turn

After the ride, cake and gifts, the girls enjoyed the trampoline. They played "Zombie Zombie" where one girl pretends to be dead on the trampoline and the other girls bounce her around.

We also celebrated at home as a family.
Grandma made Lorelai a cool banner (see it in front of the curtain) that we can use again and again.

I've been thinking a lot about the different talents and abilities our children were blessed with. I decided Lorelai has the gift of being extremely social, friendly, and uninhibited. When I was pregnant with her I had a premonition of sorts that she would bring great joy to those around her. That is definitely true. We love you Lorelai!

Baby Jaguar

Jane was starting to cry because the Letter Xs she was making looked more like letter Ts. Then she stopped herself and shouted, "I'm not a baby jaguar! I'm a BIG jaguar! And I don't cry. I'm mean. And I'm mad!"

International Night (Spring Concert)

Our elementary school had it's bi-annual "International Night Concert" last week. Lorelai's class sang songs from the USA. Lorelai is on the front row in the blue/white dress with a red sash. She was gettin' down and making the audience laugh.

Silas' class sang songs from China. Everyone had to wear yellow or red to match the Chinese flag. Silas is in the yellow shirt in the middle.
And they performed a little dance... Silas was getting into it. :)

Ephraim's class performed songs from the continent of Africa. Ephraim is wearing the white hat that Mystery Man actually bought in Africa years ago.
Everyone had a fun time!

Azael is 12!

Azael turned 12 recently and had a lot of fun with various celebrations.

Here he is posing with the cool "AZAEL" sign Grandma made for  him.

Celebrating with the family...

Middle School Band Concert (Azael is a percussionist and is standing in the back (second percussionist from the right)

A party with friends...

Azael is lucky to have a great group of friends... 4 of these boys are in band together, all of them share a love of computers & videogames, several of them love Dr. Who, and they all talk non-stop! Very fun to watch them in action together.

Finally, Azael got a suit to wear to church because he was ordained as a deacon. A big week... I like how Azael and Dad have the same expression when smiling at the camera. :)

Azael is a great kid and we're excited to see all the fun things he'll do with his life! We love you Azael.

Sunday, April 7, 2013

My parents recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. My brothers and I threw them a party to celebrate. Here they are, just before the party began, looking dapper:

We even managed to get our kids to pose all together:

Lorelai really enjoyed the dancing more than almost anyone else in the room. You can see her in the brown dress throughout the video below. She had a lasso move and a "riding a horse" move. The band gave her the "Best Dancer Award for 2013, 2012, and 2011."

Easter

Some photos from Easter weekend

Ephraim wanted a carrot cake for Easter and Lorelai wanted a bunny cake, so we came up with a compromise and had the bunny leave "easter eggs" on the grassy field on half of the cake.

Jane's latest

Jane cut her friend's hair the other day. oops!

And today I found Jane sleeping in the bathroom shortly after finishing her bath. Even 3 1/2 year olds can look like angelic babies sometimes. :)

A letter from Lorelai

A letter from Lorelai...

The letter says "Mom, I love you. And I love Yier Hasbend Dad. I Love My body."
Her positive attitude and love is great to witness. And she is like this every day. I could learn much from her. :)
